Orange
and Vaison la Romaine
Today,
we meet for breakfast at 8:00 AM and at 9:00 we take off to Orange.
Orange
has one of the best preserved amphitheatres from the Roman times.
Along with amphitheatres is a museum showing artifacts that have been
found. It is in the process of being preserved. Plays, christian/lion
fights,
and bullfights have been held. There are no railings to hold on
to going up and down the steep and wide-stride stairs. One of the
items pointed
out was the many exits to get the public out and fast. Seems the blood
and killings create aggression with the crowds, as in current day English
soccer game fights.
After lunch we are back on the bus towards Vaison la Romaine. The village
has two parts one has Greek ruins and the other a Roman village a mile
away and up a steep hill. We have the afternoon to explore and to meet
back at 7:00 PM for dinner. We go to a restaurant were there is only
a table for four left. So we had the restaurant to ourselves for the
evening.
Food
was great.
