Chateauneauf
de Pape and Avignon
Breakfast
at 8:00 AM and on the bus by 9:30. Today we are in Cotes du Rhone wine
country,
Chateauneauf de Pape (means-
”new castle of the
Pope”) and Avignon. As I remember the Pope was ran out of Italy
in the 1300’s and he stayed at Chateauneauf de Pape until the Chateau
was destroyed and he ran to Avignon were a Pope lived for 100 years.
It does not sound like he/they were very good Popes. Since that time
there
has not been a French Pope.
Avignon is a walled city where to Pope lived before he now lives in Italy.
The palace is large. Avignon is a modern day city surround by 20ft
walls. We stayed at Hotel L' Colbert. It is small but the rooms are
unique. Many
winding and levels of stairs. Patrick takes us to the heart of Avignon
and a tour of the Pope Palace. We are free for lunch and afternoon.
I visit a Gallery Angladon-Dubrujeaud. The art gallery is located in
the home of a once famous French fashion designer.
We meet at the hotel and head out to a local restaurant. We had great
food and enjoyed each others company. French dining could become a
life change
for me.
